If you're anything like me, your journey into disc golf started with just a disc or two. You definitely did not have enough discs to justify a bag. Not that you would want a bag though, because you didn't want to be one of those guys on the course with the huge backpack.
But after a few rounds, you thought to yourself that maybe a small bag wouldn't be too bad. Something just big enough to hold your water bottle and 3-4 discs. So you got your small bag, and everything was good. Plus, you even had some extra room for a few more discs.
Fast forward awhile, and you now have the big backpack. And worse, it doesn't even come close to holding all of your discs.
So, how do you store those extra discs?
A 26-inch plastic tool box might be the ultimate solution. Especially, if you like to take several discs out at a time for field work.
I highly doubt Husky had disc storage in mind when they made this tool box, but after one slight modification, it feels like it was tailor made for disc golf discs.
If you're interested picking one up, here's what you need.
What You Need
- Tool Box: 26 in. Plastic Portable Tool Box with Metal Latches in Black
- Pipe Insulation: Frost King 0.5-in x 6-ft Foam Tubular Pipe Insulation for 1-in Pipe
It's a bit of a pain to go to both Home Depot and Lowes, but for whatever reason, the pipe insulation available at Lowes was slightly thicker and does a better job of supporting the discs.
All you need to do is discard the upper tray in the tool box, and cut two lengths of pipe insulation the length of inside the box. Place each length along the back and front of the box, and that's it. You have the perfect disc storage solution, and for less than $30.
The pipe insulation will keep the discs supported off the bottom of the tool box. The discs will also settle into the foam creating a track to keep them in place when moving the box around. Each box holds roughly 40 discs, and the toolboxes are stackable if you need more than one.
